I Choose Beauty

it is a choice to turn
toward beauty
toward the wrinkles in the face
of the business woman in black

to consider
the mystery of life lived

perhaps she has children

yes she has limitation

lines around her mouth show -
a quirky cross
between a twisted smile
and a deep set frown

still there is aliveness in her eyes

she’s been somewhere dark
and back again

how many times?
I’ll never know

I only know her humanity

that with the choice
to see her beauty,
somehow
it is everywhere in everything
a simple and distinct glistening
